ITF019: Dream home for RV’rs, and more trailer reviews

inthefieldpodcast-300x300This is In The Field Camping Episode 19.  In this episode we discussed considerations for stick-and-brick homes for part-time and full-time RV’rs.  Then it was on to talking about smaller trailers, like teardrops and a-frames.  A special mention (and thanks!) goes out to Christina at tinyyellowteardrop.blogspot.com where she shares her stories and pictures of her teardrop trailer.

We also shared our first trailer buying experience, which also turned unexpectedly into a tow vehicle buying experience.  Mentioned RollinOnTV YouTube Channel, t@b trailers, and A-Liner trailers.

Our YouTube Channel has the added benefit of different original music mixed within the episodes.  On this episode, that music is put directly into the podcast version of the show.  On this show, songs include the show title music “Key To Me”, “Broken Heart”, and “Get Out Of My Head”.

ITF018: YouTube Channel, internet boxes, dehydrator follow-up, and freezing temps after de-winterizing

inthefieldpodcast-300x300This is In The Field Camping Episode 18.  In this episode we talked about our new YouTube Channel, which includes pictures, videos, and annotations.  Then it was on to ways to watch our YouTube Channel, and other digital downloadable media with various internet boxes like the Roku, Google TV, Apple TV, and BluRay players with integrated internet capabilities.  These are small units perfect for taking on the road.

Next was an update on food dehydrators, since our Nesco unit died in just under 3 weeks!  It was replaced by the “Cadillac” of dehydrators, the Excalibur – which so far has proven to be perfect.

Finally, we talked about the dilemma of de-winterizing only to partially re-winterize due to winter-like spring storms hitting the mountain west.

Our YouTube Channel has the added benefit of different original music mixed within the episodes.  Starting with this episode, that music is put directly into the podcast version of the show.  On this show, songs include the show title music “Key To Me”, “Take It To The Grave”, and “A Year To Remember”.

ITF017: Off season activities, camping philosophy, and food dehydrators

inthefieldpodcast-300x300This is In The Field Camping Episode 17.  In this episode we asked what did you do over the off-season (for those of you that had an off-season), and making plans for camping.  We also talked about how things can alter your plans, like forest fires, bans, and restrictions as well as the impact on camping on fiscal issues like sequestration and the furloughs of local, state, and federal government employees involved with camping and hiking.

We next talked about the diverse camping/camper demographic and how it runs the gamut of types of people.  Finally, it was on to food dehydrators and all the things you can do with them.  This devolved into “preppers” and how what they do can translate into camping needs, or any kind of disaster preparedness – and how dehydrators can help in this area.

Our new YouTube Channel, and Season 2 returns April 9th

Season 2 of In The Field Camping Podcast returns on Tuesday April 9th!  New shows have been recorded and edited, and new ones are being written – as long as the strange Colorado weather doesn’t hamper camping activities.  A few days after the first camping trip we had quite a dumping of snow – and the trailer had to be partially RE-winterized after being DE-winterized – a first.

In addition to this new website, we now have a YouTube channel and will be making new videos as well as adding videos from others that are relevant to what we talk about.

Thanks for the consistently high downloads even during the winter!  We finally picked up a couple stubborn states (Alaska and Montana, two states not really known for outdoors or camping??) but are still waiting on Maine and North Dakota to get on the ITF bandwagon.  So, 48 down (plus District of Columbia) and two to go.  As far as our worldwide reach, we’re up to 37 countries with Peru and Portugal the latest to download our show.

Based on the listenership, both in numbers and locations, we’re trying to broaden the appeal of the podcasts and not be local only in coverage.  You’ll probably notice a slight change in the format of the podcasts, they are already running longer and have a more “personal” feeling to them – less scripted, more off the cuff, slightly less structured and more freeform.

Thanks for listening, your continued support keeps us going upward and onward.
